Glossary
The words we use
A few terms show up everywhere on Yipi!. Here's what each one means.
- Community
- A metro. Greater Cincinnati is a Community. Every Circle lives inside one.
- Circle
- The people in one Community who share a lifestyle interest. Public, or a private Circle you make for family and friends.
- Yipi-List
- A short, place-anchored list one person makes — the kind people text each other. Every item on it counts as a vote.
- Fave
- Your own endorsement of something — the thing you do when you tap the heart. Anyone can fave, and a fave on a private list still counts.
- Circle fave
- An item a whole Circle stands behind, worked out from everyone’s faves and the other evidence. Nobody submits one. Not a star rating.
- Circle Score
- What orders a Circle’s faves. Built from community votes, published press and Tastemaker picks — never from money.
- Tastemaker
- A verified designation for demonstrated expertise in a category, checked against professional practice, third-party recognition and a body of work. Never awarded for audience size.
- Ambassador
- A member who represents Yipi! itself, bringing in brands, members and new Circles.
- Sources
- The evidence behind a Circle fave. Three kinds: Yipi! Sources (the published record), Tastemakers (expert judgment) and Community Voices (people like you). Every item shows how many faves it has and which sources they came from.
- Integrated brand
- A brand that subscribes to Yipi!. We carry its products and send you to its own store to buy.
- Linked listing
- A fave we point at but have no relationship with. The business may not know we exist, and we can’t help with an order.
- Member
- A person with a Yipi! account who can follow Circles, make Yipi-Lists, and fave items.
- Discovery listing
- A brand’s introductory items, shown on Yipi! and bought on the brand’s own store.
- Yipi! exclusive
- An offer a brand makes only to Yipi! members, honored at its own checkout.
- Fulfillment
- Handled entirely by the brand, on its own store. Yipi! holds no inventory and ships nothing.
- Yipi! Shop
- Where products and brands live: what’s been faved, who makes it, and where to get it.
- Yipi Life
- Where you browse: Circles, Yipi-Lists, stories and the people you follow.
